Following a crucial U.S. Supreme Court ruling affirming broad presidential immunity from criminal prosecution, former President Donald Trump is launching a renewed legal campaign to overturn his hush-money conviction in New York.

His legal team has taken initial steps to contest the verdict and has asked for a postponement of his impending sentencing.
On Monday, Trump’s lawyers began the process of petitioning a New York judge to overturn the jury’s May conviction on charges related to falsifying business records. They have proposed postponing his scheduled July 11 sentencing to allow time for additional legal arguments and briefing. The specifics of their motion are expected to be formally submitted to Justice Juan Merchan, with details slated for public disclosure by Tuesday.
The move comes in response to a landmark 6-3 Supreme Court decision earlier the same day, which affirmed that former presidents enjoy significant immunity from prosecution for official acts conducted during their tenure. This ruling effectively reversed lower court decisions that had previously rejected Trump’s claims of absolute immunity against federal charges related to his attempts to overturn the 2020 election results.
