Spiritual traditions teach that selfish accumulation leads to emptiness, whereas generosity cultivates inner joy.

GENEROSITY AS A SPIRITUAL PRACTICE

Across the world, spiritual teachings emphasize the transformative power of giving. In Hindu philosophy, dana—selfless giving—is a revered virtue. The Bhagavad Gita reminds us that giving without expectation purifies the heart and diminishes the ego. Buddhism also upholds dana as one of the Ten Perfections (paramitas), highlighting its role in cultivating compassion and dissolving the illusion of separateness. Christianity speaks of the joy of giving, as reflected in acts of charity and kindness, and the Quran encourages sadaqah, voluntary giving that purifies wealth and soul alike. These teachings converge on one truth: sharing nurtures the spirit, transforms the giver, and uplifts the receiver.
