Telangana Allows 10-Hour Workdays in Commercial Units to Boost Business Ease

The Government of Telangana has introduced a significant policy shift in its labor regulations, permitting employees in all commercial establishments—excluding shops—to work up to 10 hours per day.

This move, aimed at enhancing the ease of doing business in the state, is designed to offer flexibility to employers while maintaining key labor protections for workers.

Under the new policy, the total number of working hours in a week must not exceed 48. Any work performed beyond this weekly threshold will require employers to compensate workers with overtime pay, in accordance with existing labor laws. Moreover, if an employee works more than six hours in a single day, they are entitled to a rest break of at least 30 minutes.
