Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a three-day official visit to South Africa on Tuesday, where he is set to participate in the 15th BRICS summit and engage in bilateral discussions with several global leaders.

Modi’s journey to the African nation spans from August 22 to 24 and is at the behest of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. This occasion marks the first in-person BRICS summit since 2019, with Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa convening for the event. In a departure statement made in New Delhi, Modi emphasized BRICS’ robust collaborative agenda across diverse sectors. He highlighted the significance of BRICS evolving into a platform for addressing concerns pertinent to the Global South, including developmental priorities and multilateral system reforms.
