Ex-Police officer Pradeep Sharma sentenced to life imprisonment in fake encounter case

In a significant verdict, the Bombay High Court on Tuesday sentenced former policeman Pradeep Sharma to life imprisonment for his involvement in the fake encounter of Ramnarayan Gupta, an alleged close associate of gangster Chhota Rajan in 2006, in Mumbai.

A division bench comprising Justices Revati Mohite Dere and Gauri Godse overturned the sessions court's 2013 acquittal of Sharma, labeling it as "perverse" and "unsustainable". The court emphasized that the trial court had overlooked substantial evidence against Sharma, establishing his complicity in the crime.
