EU pledges €10 million to support Afghanistan's healthcare system

The EU's commitment to allocate the funds is aimed at enhancing preparedness and response mechanisms for future disease outbreaks, as well as addressing health and nutrition emergencies, according to a statement released by the EU office in Kabul on Thursday. The funding is expected to build on the enduring collaboration between the EU and WHO, which has played a pivotal role in fortifying Afghanistan's healthcare infrastructure, making it more resilient.

This substantial financial injection is designed to uplift healthcare services across all 34 provinces of Afghanistan, benefiting nearly 2 million people. The additional funding expands on the existing partnership between the EU and WHO, particularly in response to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The focus is on integrating and enhancing diagnostic capabilities, as well as improving infectious disease management and response in Afghanistan.
