Delhi Govt.-DCW dispute: Swati Maliwal alleges 181 women helpline shutdown

Rajya Sabha MP and former Chief of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), Swati Maliwal, has raised serious allegations against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Delhi government, accusing it of being determined to dismantle the women’s panel and its associated support structures, including the crucial 181 women’s helpline.

In a recent statement to ANI, Maliwal highlighted the significant role DCW has played over the past eight years, having addressed approximately 170,000 cases. However, since her resignation as the chairperson, she claims that the Delhi government has been relentless in its efforts to shut down the commission. “In eight years, Delhi Commission for Women listened to 1,70,000 cases. But ever since I resigned from the post of the chairperson, the entire Delhi Government has become adamant about shutting down DCW. Delhi Government has not released even a Rupee as funds for DCW for six months. We are also seeing that the Delhi Government has slashed the DCW budget for this year by 30%,” Maliwal stated.
