Merstham feeling more at home in South East

FOR two seasons, Merstham were Surrey’s sole representative in the Isthmian League South East Division - but manager Jamie Decruz admits he's looking forward to having a local derby again in 2025-26.

The Moatsiders were originally against being transferred sideways into the South East Division, made up mainly of Kent and Sussex based teams, from the South Central Division, which is formed of teams from Surrey, Hampshire and Greater London.
However, in 2024-25 they made their mark on the South East, finishing in the play-offs, and now with a few changing to the two Step 4 leagues, which has seen fellow Surrey side AFC Whyteleafe promoted to the South East, and south coast teams AFC Portchester and Fareham Town added to the South Central, Decruz is happy with the Moatsiders' lot.
“It's good to have another Surrey team in the league,” Decruz explained. “It'll be nice to not have to leave for a game at 11am to get to every away game!
