RORY McIlroy secured his second major victory in a week - after his 'inappropriate' pool plans in the green belt were approved.

Major victory for Rory in pool planning saga

The newly-crowned US Masters champion was given permission to carry out the work by Runnymede Borough Council.

Fresh from wearing the famous green jacket for the first time to complete a historic career grand slam, McIlroy was allowed to install a new heat pump in the grounds of his home on the prestigious Wentworth Estate.

The pump will serve a new outdoor swimming pool - despite it being considered 'inappropriate' development under national planning guidelines.

Officers at Runnymede council approved the plans with conditions, saying the "very special circumstances" which need to be met to allow development in the green belt did exist.
