Man avoids jail after cannabis and equipment found
Sunderland Echo
|May 05, 2026
A businessman who is "capable of rehabilitation" has avoided a jail term after a cannabis workshop was found during a police raid at a city shop.
Businessman Paul Atkinson was handed a suspended sentence.
Officers seized drugs, a compressor, butane gas and blow torches from a storage area at the commercial business in Chester Road, Sunderland, in August 2022.
Newcastle Crown Court heard the equipment, shown in pictures, is used to manufacture butane honey oil, commonly known as cannabis shatter, which is a more potent form of the drug.
