Fundraisers take on Everest to raise £64.5k for charity

A team of trekkers from the North East have trekked to Everest Base Camp to raise tens-of-thousands-of-pounds to support people in the region living with heart conditions.

The trekkers have just returned home after raising a whopping £64,500 for the Sunderland-based charity, the Red Sky Foundation.

The team of dedicated adventurers self-funded their expedition, ensuring that every penny donated goes toward helping babies, children and adults living with heart conditions.

Eleven people, four women, seven men, including two nurses from Newcastle's Freeman Hospital, came together as a team, to not only raise vital funds, but vital awareness of cardiac care and the work of the Red Sky Foundation across the North East.

Their route took them from Lukla through remote Sherpa villages, across dramatic Himalayan terrain and onward to Everest Base Camp, where they proudly flew the flag for Red Sky Foundation against the backdrop of the world's highest peak.
