Gateshead fail to make most of opponents' early red card

GATESHEAD extended their mini upturn in form to just one defeat in their last five games in all competitions with a goalless draw at former National League North title rivals Brackley Town.

However, Alun Armstrong's men may feel they could and should have collected a more lucrative reward from their visit to St James Park after they faced ten men for more than 80 minutes in the fifth tier of English football.

‘The Saints were reduced to ten with just seven minutes on the clock. Defender Zak Lilly was shown a straight red for a last-man challenge on winger Kyle Hurst.

‘The Heed went closest to taking all three points as David Ferguson hit the post with a header - but it ‘was an injury to Kenton Richardson that will have provoked concern for Armstrong.
