THE MOMENT PEOPLE GATHERED TO WAVE IT OFF IN 1953
FIFTY-TWO years ago the last vintage tram left Steelhouse Lane packed with passengers heading for Erdington.
On July 4, 1953, the Number 616 was escorted by crowds of Brummies who wanted to be a part of history as the tram ended at the terminus in Erdington.
The scene was more like a street party with people lining the streets to wish it goodbye.
