Terrorism thrives on division. Pakistanis and Indians must see each other as brothers

India and Pakistan, both nuclear armed, seemed on the brink of war last week after an April attack on Indian-administered Kashmir by militants killed 26. Yesterday a ceasefire was agreed. Former first minister HUMZA YOUSAF, who has family from both places, said a long-term peace strategy is needed

- BY HUMZA YOUSAF

IT DOESN'T get any more serious than two nuclear armed states on the brink of war. This isn't just a problem for those in India and Pakistan, the threat of nuclear war is an existential threat to us all.

News of an immediate ceasefire is very welcome but just take a look at Gaza to see how fragile ceasefire can be.

That is why cool heads, for the long-term, are needed, both at home and in India and Pakistan. As someone whose grandparents were born in India and father was born in Pakistan, I have a deep affection for both nations.

India and Pakistan share so much culture, history, language, faiths and, of course, in my unbiased opinion, some of the world’s best cuisine.

It breaks my heart to see both countries turn on one another on the back of the horrific attack in Pahalgam.
