Fox thanks Shanks but star's future up in air

STAYER OF THE MATCH?

LIAM FOX may have found the remedy to cure Lawrence Shankland's goalscoring ills as the skipper shot back to the top of Hearts charts.

But the caretaker boss insists he has no answer to whether the Tynecasle talisman will still be in maroon next season.

Shankland hit another double. That made it nine for the season - five of which have come in Fox's five games as caretaker for the soon to be out-of-contract hitman.

Alan Forrest put the gloss on the comfortable Tynecastle win as Hearts regained seventh spot from the Steelmen, who had a Callum Slattery goal chalked off after a VAR intervention at 1-0.

But it was Shankland's name that rang out from the Jambos faithful who appear to have fallen back in love with their skipper.

Asked if there was any chance the striker could yet stick around with a new manager set to take the reins, Fox said: "That is not a question for me to answer at this moment.

"All I can say is that Lawrence Shankland has been great for me this last couple of weeks and he has scored some important goals. So we'll see where that one goes.

"Everybody's situation is different, every player. These kind of things I'm sure will be discussed.
