Simo hails Jambos target Josh for doing talking on pitch as stylish Saints storm five clear at top

SIMO VALAKARI says Josh McPake proved his Perth promotion focus by sending St Johnstone on the way to their biggest win of the Championship campaign.

The 24-year-old, a pre-contract target for Hearts, rounded off a week of transfer talk with the opener.

He then assisted for Sam Stanton as Jamie Gullan bagged a double and Adama Sidibeh completed a five-star display.

McPake's 12th-minute strike made it 14 for the season and boss Valakari said: "The best way to do your talking is to perform on the field.

"Josh did that. I've really liked what I've seen from him since this (Hearts) talk began.

"It was probably the most clinical we've been this season.

"We were relentless and ruthless in our attitude as a unit and individuals.

"It was a big team effort and a very pleasing afternoon."

Saints led 3-0 at the break against Queen’s Park last month before scraping home 4-3.

And Valakari admits there was a massive determination not to place another big interval cushion in peril.
