'Rapists' avoid facing criminal charges

PROSECUTORS have allowed 20 alleged rapists to avoid facing criminal charges in court in the last three years, we can reveal.
Figures obtained by the Sunday Mail show 13 rape charges were dealt with by diversion from prosecution between July 2023 and November last year. A further seven charges are ongoing.
Diversion rules were designed for those committing low-level offences such as vandalism or theft to be handled through social work, intervention or rehabilitation.
But they began to be applied to young men accused of rape. Instead of facing trial, alleged attackers are given therapy and spared a criminal conviction.
