President orders Easter ceasefire

VLADIMIR Putin has agreed to an "Easter truce" with Ukraine, ordering a ceasefire from last night until midnight on Monday.

The Russian president made the announcement at a meeting with the chief of the general staff of Russia's armed forces Valery Gerasimov.

The Kremlin quoted Putin as saying: "I order that all military actions be stopped for this period.
