MOST VOTERS WANT A TAX ON WEALTHY

Public back super-rich levy to help tackle £40bn black hole

MOST voters support taxing the super-rich, a poll shows today.

The policy is backed by 57 per cent, with just 19 per cent disagreeing, out of 1095 people surveyed.

The result shows the “tide is rapidly shifting on the issue” of taxes on wealth, says think-tank Compass, which commissioned the poll.

It comes as Chancellor Rachel Reeves is under pressure to hike taxes in the autumn Budget to fill a £40billion black hole.

Last week, former Labour leader Neil Kinnock told how a tax on the wealthiest would help reduce child poverty.
