TEARFUL Laura Muir was mystified after her shock exit in the opening round of the women's 1500 metres in Tokyo.

The 32-year-old was well placed heading into the home straight but went into reverse, finishing eighth in 4:05.59 as reigning champion Faith Kipyegon underlined her status as overwhelming favourite.
