The peril of continued global warming

On January 10, 2025, the World Meteorological Organization released official temperature data for 2024, showing that last year was the hottest on record, exceeding the pre-industrial level by nearly 1.55°C. Moreover, 2024 marked the climax of a decade of unprecedented heat, fueled by human activities, which led to an increase in extreme weather events, thus giving evidence of how current temperatures are increasingly putting life at risk.

Floods in Valencia (Spain), Emilia Romagna (Italy), the Sahara, devastating storms in Florida (U.S.), typhoons in the Philippines and droughts in the Amazon region are just six of the catastrophes that occurred in the past year, which, in the opinion of most but not all experts, were exacerbated by cli
