At the outset I must state that I did not get to know .Maduluwawe Sobitha Thera as closely as some of the other priests such as the Ven. Waturuvila Sirisujatha, the Chief Incumbent of Kotte Sri Naga Viharaya and Rajagiriya Purana Viharaya; the Chief Incumbent of Ruwanweli Maha Seya Viharaya and Chancellor of the Rajarata University, Sastrapathi Pandita Ethalewatunu Wewe Gnanathilaka Thero; the Late Podi Hammadurowo of Gangarama and the late Professor Ven. Professor Bellanwila Wimalaratana Thera, the former Chancellor of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. During discussions with them and through my own research for a forthcoming book on why Buddhism is misinterpreted, I gathered much information on Ven. Sobitha Thero. An alms giving to over 159 monks to confer merit on him took place at Naga Viharaya on Saturday 8
