SIX NATIONS VICTORY LEAVES PRINCESS SMILING
TRY as she might, the Princess of Wales couldn’t hide her delight when England beat Wales in their crunch Six Nations rugby clash yesterday.
Husband William, patron of the Welsh Rugby Union, admitted they faced a “tense” car journey home as more misery was piled on his winless team.
But Kate, who holds a rival role with the English Rugby Football Union, looked anything but glum after the match.
The cagey affair at a sell-out Principality Stadium in Cardiff saw England 20-10 winners, heaping pressure on a Welsh team without a point in the competition.
William and Kate – who took over her England role from exiled brother-in-law Harry – revelled in some good-natured opposition as they enjoyed the match.
Both keen competitors and sports-mad, the couple cheered and clapped their way through the contest, alongside almost 75,000 other rugby union fans.
The Prince even teased that the stunning red-and-white knee-length Catherine Walker dogtooth coat his wife wore for the occasion was “diplomatic”. Before the match, the Prince and Princess met injured former players – and joked about the possible outcomes.
