The paper is launching the Warm Hearts Campaign to deliver a simple message: reach out to someone who needs it and make a difference.

Seven out of 100 Britons "always or often" feel lonely, according to the Office for National Statistics.

That is nearly four million people in England, Scotland and Wales for whom Christmas is something that happens for and to "other people".
