Margaritas shake up the charts as tequila sales soar

MARGARITAS have shaken mojitos off the top spot among drinkers to become the UK's fastest-growing cocktails.
Sales of main ingredient tequila are also booming — up almost 40% at Tesco — thanks to stars endorsing the drink.
Tequila is distilled from the blue agave plant, found near the Mexican city after which the spirit is named.
In the last year, demand for ready-made Margaritas has soared by more than 150% — more than any other cocktail - according to data from market research firm Nielsen IQ.
The drink, which is traditionally served in a salt-rimmed glass, has become so popular that it has knocked Cuban favourite mojito — the main ingredient of which is white rum — off the number one spot at Tesco.
