'Lionesses have spirit of 66' says Sir Geoff

ENGLAND legend Sir Geoff Hurst is willing the Lionesses to make history today - just like the boys of '66.

The World Cup hat-trick hero has given a personal message of support to the women's team ahead of their bid to beat Spain.

He said: "What you have achieved so far is fantastic and with one more hurdle to go, all I can say is I just wish you every success for this gigantic game.

"We are, as a nation, so excited and pumped up for you and willing you to win.

"It will bring such a huge boost to the country at a time when we need it."

Sir Geoff, 81, was part of Sir Alf Ramsey's heroic side that beat West Germany 4-2 at Wembley in 1966.

And he is one of only two men ever to score a hat-trick in a World Cup final.

He said: "Seeing the Lionesses play, they have the determination, the skill, the aggression, the commitment - all of the things you need to be successful.

"They have a very similar attitude to us in 1966.
