Sunday Express
|May 18, 2025
THE nation’s thirsty reservoirs and rivers are at worryingly low levels that could worsen in the next three months, leading to water restrictions and hosepipe bans.
With no substantial rainfall for three months — amid England’s driest spring since 1961 - levels are well below what is usual for this time of year.
Northern England is the worst-hit area, with Northumbria and Cumbria having the driest start to the year since 1929.
As bodies of water shrink, the submerged villages beneath the Lake District’s largest reservoirs, Haweswater and Thirlmere, have reappeared.
