Drones in 'near misses' with planes every week

DRONES came within feet of crashing into passenger planes on almost a weekly basis in the UK last year.
Forty-six safety reports were compiled by pilots returning to base after a near mid-air drone collision.
Many incidents involved jets near major airports, including Heathrow, Gatwick, Newcastle, Birmingham, Stansted and Belfast City.
One incident saw the startled first officer say "did you see that?" to cockpit staff after he spotted a drone just moments after take-off from Leeds Bradford Airport. The drone appeared to steer towards the Boeing 737 before veering away.
