Anger at 'insulting' lenient sentences for vile offenders

PUBLIC fury is growing at lenient sentencing which denies justice to the victims of “heinous crimes”, the Government has been told.

After securing a review that may lead to a longer sentence for a child abuser, an MP has called for “far harsher sentences” to keep rapists, paedophiles and murderers off the streets.

Meanwhile, the parents of a four-year-old girl who died after being hit by a stolen car are also campaigning for families to have more time to appeal against “unduly lenient sentences”.

Conservative MP Saqib Bhatti requested a review of the seven-and-a-half-year sentence given to Daniel Clarke, who admitted sexual offences against six vulnerable children.
