We must grasp opportunities for our city
Stirling Observer
|June 18, 2025
As the Member of Parliament for Stirling and Strathallan, it's my privilege to represent our communities at Westminster and ensure that the voices and priorities of Stirling are heard loud and clear.
Over the past few weeks, several major developments have been announced which will directly impact Scotland, and offer real opportunities for us here in Stirling if we grasp them.
The UK Government Spending Review marks a decisive break from the lost years of Tory austerity.
After years of stagnation, we are finally seeing a government prepared to invest at scale in Scotland's future. The facts speak for themselves: over £9.1 billion of additional funding for Scottish public services over the next three years; £750 million for a new world-leading national supercomputer in Edinburgh; £200 million for the Acorn carbon capture project in Aberdeen, securing the next generation of jobs in the North Sea; and £250 million of investment in shipbuilding on the Clyde, securing vital high skill defence jobs on the Clyde.
