Dangers of roe deer on local roads highlighted

A new road safety campaign has been launched warning drivers to be on the look-out for deer on the region’s roads.

Stirling Council is backing the campaign launched by NatureScot, urging drivers across the region to be extra vigilant for roe deer - particularly during dusk and dawn.

The campaign, in partnership with Transport Scotland and Traffic Scotland, comes at a time of year when young roe deer begin to roam further afield in search of new territory-leading to an increase in deer-vehicle collisions, particularly near wooded areas and busy junctions.

As a result, brand new 'electric warning signs’ are to be installed on some key routes across Stirling - including high-risk areas near Stirling such as the M9 east of the Pirnhall Interchange, until June 13.

The council's Environment, Transport and Net Zero Committee Convener, Cllr Jen Preston said: "We fully support this important campaign from NatureScot. Stirling’s stunning natural surroundings mean that roe deer are a familiar sight in our rural and even suburban areas. But that beauty also brings risk—particularly at this time of year when deer are most active near our roads.
