This quote is not just for reading purpose, it has a great link with our reality. Nowadays most of the people are so busy and their schedule is so tight that they sometimes they don't have time to make food, so they have to eat fast food and excesses sugary drinks. But also there are some who enjoy eating outside regularly because of their habits or they don't like the homemade food and gives the reason of bad appetite. Recent research has uncovered a powerful and complex relationship between our gut and brain. This connection known as the gut brain axis, shows what happens to your stomach must affect your brain, your thoughts, emotions and even your mental health. Indeed our gut has so much influence that it can be called as our ‘second brain.’

Gut-Brain Axis

It is a two way communication network between gastrointestinal tract(gut) and the central nervous system(brain). The gut can influence the brain's mood, cognition and behavior and the brain can impact gut functions like digestion and mobility. This communication has several ways-

1.Vagus Nerve- One of the longest cranial nerve in the body, acts like a communication expressway between gut and brain.

2. Neurotransmitters- Hormones and neurotransmitter-schemieals like serotonin, dopamineproduced in the gut can influence the brain and vice versa impacting mood, digestion and other functions.

3. Gut microbes- Trillions of bacteria and other microorganisms living the gut, influence the axis, affecting both gut funetions and brain activity. Inflammation in the gut can trigger immune responses that affect the brain.

‘This axis is so powerful that scientists, now studying it's role and conditions fromirritable bowel syndrome(IBS) to depression, anxiety and even Alzheimer's.
