Police on Thursday busted a gang of hardcore criminals allegedly involved in extortion activities across J&K and Punjab and arrested six of its members, including a key accused in the sensational Chandigarh firing case, officials said.

The action was a major breakthrough against organised crime in the Punjab-Jammu and Kashmir region.
The gang was allegedly operating under the direction of jailed gangster Rohit Kumar alias Makhan and was engaged in extortion and other criminal activities in the two states, they said.
