Ellis Shipp was among Merthyr's scorers
Merthyr made it a perfect 10 in the Admiral Premiership and struck a blow in this season's title race after once again getting the better of rivals Pontypridd. The Ironmen’s 38-28 victory at The Wern on Saturday maintained their 100 per cent winning record this season - they are now 10 from 10 ~ and was their third Premiership win on the bounce over Ponty having also won both league battles last season.
Ian Evans’ men recovered from an early setback with the visitors striking first in the third minute when Fijian international Niko Matawalu, making his return for Ponty, fed a scoring pass to wing Joe Davies, with Jaydan Pugh converting.
However, Merthyr soon responded and by halftime were leading 26-7 with the bonus point already secure courtesy of two tries for No. 8 Cerith Lloyd and one each for wing Corum Nott and hooker Ellis Shipp.
Ben Jones converted three of them.
