Glamorgan’s One Day Cup defence off to a shaky start as rain wipes out latest tie

GLAMORGAN and Derbyshire suffered a washout in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup Group A to dent qualification hopes after just two games played.

Persistent rainfall continued in Neath for Glamorgan's second visit to the outground this week after a 72-run defeat to Hampshire in the competition’s opening fixture.

Both sides picked up their first points in their second scheduled game after Derbyshire also lost their opener, to Gloucestershire at Cheltenham.

With six matches still to play in the group stage, both counties already sit in a disadvantaged position in a quickfire race for the top three with other games in the group going ahead. Defending champions Glamorgan head to The Oval on Wednesday, meanwhile Derbyshire host local rivals Nottinghamshire on Sunday.

JOS Buttler is looking to Joe Root for inspiration as he looks to flourish in his “new phase” as a former England captain.

Buttler (pictured) stepped down as leader of England's white-ball team earlier this year after two disappointing World Cup campaigns, passing the baton to Harry Brook over the summer.
