Council ousts member over attendance

A PROMINENT Reform UK councillor has been ousted from a community council due to his absence at its meetings.

This has led to a vacancy being declared, potentially triggering a second by-election in less than three years to fill the seat previously occupied by Councillor David Thomas on Cwmbran Community Council.
Cllr Thomas is the leader of the Reform UK Wales group on Torfaen Borough Council. He, along with two other formerly independent councillors, joined Reform shortly after the 2024 general election.
This gave the Nigel Farage-led party its first local government representatives in Wales, with Cllr Thomas also serving as regional director for Wales.
