Alleged mosque attack plot sparks safety fears

MEMBERS of a Muslim community have raised concerns about the lack of extra security around Cardiff mosques after two teenagers were accused of plotting terrorist attacks at a city-centre mosque.

Worshippers at Madina Mosque on Lucas Street in Roath have reported feeling intimidated by news of the alleged plot and said they are worried about sending their children there.

Last Friday, two teenagers appeared by videolink at a preliminary hearing at the Old Bailey charged with the preparation of acts of terrorism in relation to a mosque and a Jewish cemetery in Cardiff.

Rhys Edwards and Talan Gethin Vincent, both 18, were said to have "researched and visited attack locations and made arrangements to obtain firearms".

It was indicated during the hearing that the pair intend to plead not guilty and a three-week trial is set to take place at Bristol Crown Court from February 1, 2027.
