'You too can help make a difference by volunteering'

A South Shields magistrate wants others to join her as 45% of people say they would consider volunteering in the next 12 months.

New research shows 45% of adults in England and Wales would consider volunteering in the next 12 months, with 'making a difference to others and the local community' and 'meeting new people or being part of a team' given as the main reasons for choosing a volunteering opportunity.

And more than half (57%) of the general public think that volunteering in their local community is important.

On International Volunteer Day, which took place on December 5, Julie Potts, 44, who had an interest in the law before starting a family, highlighted how she became a magistrate after responding to an advert on social media.
