Italian giants AS Roma are in the frame to sign Sunderland midfielder Dan Neil amid ongoing uncertainty over his future on Wearside, according to reports.

The 23-year-old was a key member of Regis Le Bris' promotion-winning side last term, making 48 appearances and wearing the captain's armband for his boyhood club.

This season has proved much less fruitful for the Black Cats academy graduate, however.
