Over 300 schools can share a slice of breakfast costs

More than 300 schools in the North East are being invited to apply for cash to set up a free breakfast club to tackle the cost-of-living crisis.

Government funding is on offer to 307 schools in the region where 40% of pupils receive free school mealspart of an £80million project which it says aims to give "every child the best start in life".

Ministers say the scheme will help working parents juggling childcare costs and time by saving them up to £450 in breakfast costs, while ensuring children are "ready to learn" every day.

The Government wants to see half a million more children making use of Best Start free breakfast clubs from April.
