Although Saint Andrew's Day falls on November 30, it's January when Scots celebrate their nationhood.

M. John Henry melds rock and folk to make a Celtic Connection

Burns Night takes place on January 25, but around the same time in Glasgow is Celtic Connectionsa month-long feast of traditional and alternative music from Scotland and beyond.

Among the rich diaspora celebrated at this time is one of the country's most unsung heroes, M. John Henry. It's 20 years since his band De Rosa put out their first album Mend, a mix of scratchy punk and elaborately constructed melodies all underpinned by Henry's poetic lyrics, referencing the country's heritage in songs like Heart of Coal, All Saint's Day and Hattonrigg Pit Disaster

Now, the band's chief songwriter has revisited tracks from that album-but in largely acoustic form. And with these old/new songs comes a new guise.
