Scunthorpe pub The Mary Rose reopens under new ownership

THE VENUE HAS BEEN RENOVATED FOR A SECOND TIME INTO A TRADITIONAL TAVERN

- By COREENA FORD

THE Mary Rose pub is on the rise for a fresh start once more just like King Henry VIII's famous 16th-century ship.

The Scunthorpe pub has reopened under new ownership, just over a year after a “large scale” late night fight led to its closure.

And it has been taken over by the partner of the man who first created it 23 years ago, when he transformed a derelict house into a traditional, Tudor-style boozer.

Licence holder Niamh McIntyre and her partner Clive Thompson told how they can't wait to show customers how they've taken the pub back to its roots.

In a yearlong renovation, the pair have reinstated all of its cosy seating and historic quirks and of course put the model of its namesake back above the door.

Former dentist Clive told how he first built the pub in 2002, running it alongside his dentistry practice, pulling pints instead of teeth.

However, after a number of years he kept the licence in his name but rented it to new management who took over the site and carried out their own conversion, covering all the wood panelling to turn it into a late night venue.

Police were called to the Frodingham Road bar in September 2024 after reports of disorder between a group of people.
