'A major vote of confidence'

MORE THAN 200 PEOPLE APPLY FOR BRITISH STEEL APPRENTICESHIPS

BRITISH Steel has had extraordinary levels of interest in its first apprenticeship roles for three years.

More than 200 people have applied to become apprentices at the company as it looks to build its next generation of engineers and technical experts.

There are vacancies for 24 engineering craft apprenticeships and six technical apprenticeships. All would be based in Scunthorpe.

British Steel's interim chief executive officer Alan Bell has said the interest so far in the apprenticeships is "a major vote of confidence" in the business.

"We are building for the future, and this starts with our people and the superb career opportunities we now have on offer," said Mr Bell.
