Stewart, Thelwell sacked by Gers
RANGERS have sacked chief executive Patrick Stewart and sporting director Kevin Thelwell, with chairman Andrew Cavenagh saying neither man’s attributes fit the club's “needs”.
The pair spearheaded this summer's hiring of Russell Martin as manager and a £40million squad revamp. But the costly overhaul has proved a disaster, with Martin axed after 123 chaotic days amid a ragged start to the season.
Furious fans repeatedly called for Thelwell and Stewart to go, and those protests had continued even after Danny Rohl took over the managerial reins a month ago.
Cavenagh pulled the trigger yesterday to relieve the pair of their duties with immediate effect and former chairman Fraser Thornton has stepped in as acting CEO while Ibrox chiefs draw up a list of replacements for Stewart.
