A wealthy businessman's death has seismic effects on his family

Where there's a will...

He's worth a fortune, but all the money in the world can't save businessman Jack Wright from his fate.

A single gunshot ends the 74-year-old's life at the start of six-part thriller I, Jack Wright, leaving his family in shock.

However, their surprise at his death, initially thought to be suicide but later confirmed as murder, is complicated by what comes next.

Gathering at the patriarch's country estate, Marston Hall, they learn that his will contains very good news for some relatives and employees but disastrous news for others.

Waking The Dead's Trevor Eve appears as Jack Wright in this U&Alibi drama from Chris Lang, who is the man behind long-running ITV crime series Unforgotten. Chris was fascinated by the idea of one document changing people's lives but created by someone who can't be asked to explain the decisions behind it.

"I've a friend who was left appreciably less money in her mother's will than her sister," says Chris. "It led to a great deal of emotional distress, for my friend, not least because she couldn't ask her mother what the thinking was behind her decisions. The idea for I, Jack Wright sprang from there."

Secrets are slowly revealed throughout the series as those who receive meagre amounts in the will challenge the document's authenticity.
