VICKO RED UNITED GAFFER JIM INFURIATED

DUNDEE UNITED are to appeal Vicko Sevelj’s weekend red card after manager Jim Goodwin dubbed the decision “quite incredible”.

The Croatian defender was sent off in last Saturday’s thrilling 3-3 league draw with Hibs at Easter Road when VAR asked referee Dan McFarlane to look at footage of him handling the ball after he had been knocked off balance by his own goalkeeper Yehvenii Kucherenko.

It appeared Sevelj could do very little about it, but the official flashed a straight red card and awarded a penalty, from which Jamie McGrath scored Hibs’ 86th-minute equaliser.

United officials reviewed the incident and have decided to challenge the decision.

The appeal is expected to be heard by an SFA fast-track tribunal later this week, which has the power to downgrade or upgrade the initial punishment.

Goodwin said: “I would hate to be a defender in the modern game and I certainly wouldn’t enjoy being a referee either, having to come to decisions on things that are so subjective.
