Tennant: My parents loved me but just couldn't say so

SCOTS actor David Tennant has spoken emotionally of the lack of expressed love he received from his parents.

The Bathgate-born former Doctor Who admitted that “even when my parents were dying it was so hard to say I love you”.

Tennant, who will be 54 on April 18, is the son of former Church of Scotland moderator the Very Rev Dr Sandy McDonald, who died in 2016 aged 78. His mother Helen, the daughter of former footballer Archie McLeod, died in 2007.

In a podcast interviewed by his wife, Georgia, the star couple talked about their loving family life with their five children.

"My mum and dad were very loving," Tennant said.
