Swinney ‘defying logic’ with bid to dismantle the UK
Scottish Daily Express
|April 15, 2025
JOHN Swinney has defied “all logic” by doubling down on a desire to dismantle the UK as the world faces economic uncertainty.
The First Minister yesterday insisted the “time is right” for Scottish independence despite the impact of Donald Trump’s new tariffs yet to be fully known.
The SNP leader has distanced the party from the Scexit push recently. And the constitutional question has plunged down the priority list for voters leaving the Nats exposed at next year’s Holyrood election.
But Mr Swinney tried to reignite the flame yesterday, calling a press conference to announce that he would be revealing his programme for government in May rather than September.
Questioned by reporters, he insisted the “time is right” for Scottish independence.
