Slow down in jobs market hits recruitment specialist

RECRUITER PageGroup’s profits have dived due to the sluggish jobs market and uncertainty in global trade.

Gross profit fell 12.3% to £389.3million year-on-year — with a notable 13.4% slide in the UK.

British firms have been grappling with tax hikes and the fallout of Donald Trump’s tariffs, leading to some of the most challenging conditions in the job market since the pandemic.

PageGroup said converting accepted offers into successful, longer-term placements was the biggest challenge.

Temporary recruitment fell 9.5% through the six months to the end of June, while permanent hires skidded 13.4%.
