A FORMER chief of staff to Theresa May says he believes the Tories must "sort ourselves out, make ourselves appealing again" to beat Reform at the next general election.

- By Andrew Papworth

Now an MP, Nick Timothy was once one of the Government's most powerful advisers and dubbed the Prime Minister's "political brain".

Speaking to the Express, he said the party must "show we've got the ideas for the country" in order to win back power.

He said: "I think we should be totally honest about the things we think we got right and wrong over our time in power.

"In the last five years in particular, we let the country down. And I'm totally unembarrassed about saying that. Unless we're open about that fact, then I don't think the country's going to want to hear from us anyway.
